Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital of Seventh-Day Adventists in Jalandhar, Punjab was established in 1966 and is named after Mrs. Ruby Nelson, a missionary nurse to India who sacrificed her life in service of the people of India. The hospital has made a great impact in and around Jalandhar and has grown in a significant way. In 1985 the hospital started Cristoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) Eye Program. Since then it has built a reputation for community health by reaching out to rural areas of the state with its eye surgical camps. The hospital also runs a diploma program in Optometry in collaboration with Christian Medical Association of India (CMAI). The Ruby Nelson Memorial Hospital aims at becoming a Centre for excellence in Ophthalmology, where it can establish an academic program to train Eye Technicians.
The Management, Staff and Students possess a deep sense of commitment towards caring for the sick and suffering. The Eye Department famous for its high volume, quality cataract surgery is chiefly involved in the development of Community Eye health in collaboration with National and International Organizations. The primary objective is to eliminate the increasing incidence of avoidable blindness due to cataract and other causes.
